Like a conventional doctor, dentist, or chiropractor, a naturopathic doctor first completes an undergraduate degree at a university or college. A naturopathic medical student then enters into a four-year, full-time accredited naturopathicmedical program. Following the program, the naturopathic medical student must pass the state licensing exams to become a licensed Naturopathic Doctor (ND) or licensed Naturopathic Medical Doctor (NMD). Health providers that did not attend an accredited naturopathic medical program and pass the state licensing exams, such as a naturopathic practitioner, doctor of natural medicine, naturopath, or natural doctor, are not considered a ND or NMD.
