What is Naturopathic Medicine?

What can Naturopathic Medicine do for you?
Naturopathic medicine treats all health concerns for all ages from acute to chronic and physical to psychological. It is beneficial for patients looking for disease prevention, those with a range of unaddressed symptoms, patients diagnosed with serious or chronic illness looking for treatment options, and those looking to combine conventional and naturopathic treatments to minimize side effects.
How does Naturopathic Medicine compare to conventional medicine?
Both are doctors, both provide primary care and both are similarly trained. The primary differences are the philosophical approach and the therapies used. Naturopathic doctors treat patients as individuals by addressing physical, environmental, lifestyle, attitudinal, and emotional aspects of health. This allows naturopathic doctors to find and treat the cause of disease using a variety of therapies. Conventional doctors generally address and treat the symptoms of disease and use pharmaceutical therapies or surgery.
What does it take to become a Naturopathic Medical Doctor?
Like a conventional doctor, a naturopathic doctor first completes an undergraduate degree, then enters into a four-year, full-time accredited naturopathic medical program. Following the program, the naturopathic medical student must pass the state licensing exams to become a licensed Naturopathic Doctor (ND) or Naturopathic Medical Doctor (NMD).
