Trigger Points

Hyperirritable spots within taut bands of skeletal muscle that produce local and referred pain, restrict range of motion, and cause muscle weakness.

What are Trigger Points?

Trigger points form due to muscle overload, trauma, poor posture, or stress, creating contracted knots that compress local blood vessels and nerves. They produce predictable referred pain patterns — for example, trigger points in the upper trapezius commonly refer pain to the temple and behind the eye. Treatment includes dry needling, manual therapy, and shockwave therapy.

Who is it for?

Patients with chronic muscle pain, tension headaches, neck and back pain, or pain that seems to radiate from one area to another.

Benefits

  • Identifying trigger points explains referred pain
  • Dry needling provides rapid relief
  • Manual therapy releases contracted fibers
  • Corrective exercise prevents recurrence
