Hashimoto's Thyroiditis

An autoimmune condition in which the immune system attacks the thyroid gland, gradually destroying its ability to produce thyroid hormones and leading to hypothyroidism.

What is Hashimoto's Thyroiditis?

Hashimoto's is the most common cause of hypothyroidism in the United States. It is diagnosed by the presence of thyroid peroxidase (TPO) and/or thyroglobulin antibodies. A naturopathic approach addresses both the thyroid hormone deficiency and the underlying autoimmune process through dietary modifications (often gluten-free), gut health optimization, selenium supplementation, and stress management.

Who is it for?

Patients with hypothyroid symptoms and elevated thyroid antibodies, or those with a family history of autoimmune conditions and thyroid dysfunction.

Benefits

  • Identifying the autoimmune component changes treatment
  • Dietary modifications reduce antibody levels
  • Gut health optimization addresses root causes
  • Comprehensive approach manages both thyroid and immune function
