Radiculopathy

A condition in which a spinal nerve root is compressed, irritated, or inflamed, causing pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness that radiates along the nerve's distribution.

What is Radiculopathy?

Radiculopathy can occur in the cervical (neck), thoracic (mid-back), or lumbar (lower back) spine. Cervical radiculopathy causes symptoms in the arms and hands, while lumbar radiculopathy (including sciatica) affects the legs. Common causes include herniated discs, bone spurs, and spinal stenosis.

Who is it for?

Patients with pain, numbness, or weakness radiating from the spine into the arms or legs, especially if worsened by certain positions or movements.

Benefits

  • Physical examination identifies the affected nerve level
  • Conservative treatment is effective for most cases
  • Targeted rehabilitation reduces nerve compression
  • Imaging confirms diagnosis when needed
