BMAC (Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate) is an orthobiologic, regenerative therapy derived from a patient’s own bone marrow, often used for moderate-to-severe musculoskeletal injuries. Unlike PRP (from blood), BMAC contains regenerative cells, growth factors, and anti-inflammatory cytokines, making it better suited for advanced degeneration, cartilage repair, or structural damage.

About BMAC

Bone marrow is one of the richest sources of regenerative cells in the body. BMAC therapy involves extracting a small amount of bone marrow, concentrating the regenerative cells, growth factors, and anti-inflammatory proteins, and then injecting them precisely into the damaged area using musculoskeletal ultrasound guidance.

This concentrated solution provides a powerful regenerative stimulus that can promote tissue repair, reduce inflammation, and support the regeneration of cartilage, tendons, and ligaments at a level beyond what PRP or A2M alone can achieve.

When BMAC Is the Right Choice

BMAC is typically recommended for patients with more advanced conditions where other orthobiologic therapies may not be sufficient:

  • Moderate to severe osteoarthritis
  • Cartilage defects and degeneration
  • Meniscus tears and labral tears
  • Rotator cuff injuries
  • Avascular necrosis
  • Non-healing fractures
  • Tendon and ligament injuries that haven’t responded to PRP

The Procedure

BMAC is a same-day, in-office procedure performed at our Chandler office. Dr. Romero and Dr. Coon use musculoskeletal ultrasound to guide the injection for maximum precision and effectiveness. The entire process typically takes about 60-90 minutes, and most patients can return to normal activities within a few days.

BMAC can also be combined with shockwave therapy to enhance tissue receptivity and improve outcomes.

Musculoskeletal Ultrasound

Our clinic offers in-house diagnostic MSK ultrasound for same-day diagnosis and for guided injections when treating with BMAC. Dr. Kendall Stewart performs MSK imaging. Ultrasound guidance ensures that BMAC is delivered precisely to the target area for the best possible treatment outcome.
